Gifts

Tis the season!

So I may have been a little more of a “last minute momma” this Christmas. I definitely waited until the last week before I even started my shopping this year. Considering I have 6 kiddos, there was a considerable amount to accomplish.

The thing about shopping for Christmas gifts is that it is so not like a quick trip to the grocery store. It takes a lot longer.

I walk through the aisles to see what grabs my eye: what would be just right for that kid? What do they love? What do they want to try? Are they extroverted or introverted? What kind of growth do I want to foster in them this year? Are they ready for that gift? Can I stretch out their childhood a little longer? How would their having this gift affect the other kids in the family? Would it help create peace in our home or cause chaos?

I spend time considering the person.
Their development.
Their personality.
Their community.

There is another giver of gifts that we think a lot about this season. He gave us the gift of salvation on the cross. He gave us the gift of freedom and authority by rising from the grave.

And he actively gives us gifts today.

So I started thinking about spiritual gifts.

Wow! It makes you think! The way I lovingly considered my children as I picked gifts this Christmas — that’s how God thinks of us. He considers our personality, development, and community in our giftings.

He is a good Father.

Know today that what has been picked for you was considered carefully. It’s the perfect fit. He knows you better than you know yourself.

So if you start looking around, maybe wondering why your gifts don’t looks like someone else’s, know that the maker of Heaven and Earth gave you just what you need.

He loves you more than you know.

Merry Christmas, Sister.

“If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?””

  2. AMEN, AMEN,
At this time of year I have to remind myself to take time for my family, I have to slow down, and enjoy life. I thank God for all my family and friends and for Beth. Beth’s ministry has helped me to clear my mind, to focus on my thought pattern so I can better remember others needs. I thank God for his gift of love through his Son, Jesus the Messiah, for his birth, his death and his resurrection. Jesus is the reason for this season.
